About

The Algerian Academy of the Arabic Language, founded by Law No. 86-10 on August 19, 1986, functions as a national scientific and cultural institution with legal personality and financial independence. Operating under the high patronage and supervision of the President of the Republic, the academy is headquartered in Algiers. Its primary mission is the preservation, enrichment, and modernization of the Arabic language, ensuring its relevance in the contemporary scientific and technological context.

The academy’s objectives include fostering the growth and development of the Arabic language, safeguarding its purity, and promoting its use in creative and scientific endeavors. To achieve these goals, the academy engages in various activities such as reviving historical Arabic terms, adopting and creating new terminology, and translating contemporary global terms into Arabic. Additionally, it emphasizes the dissemination of these terms through educational and administrative channels, the publication of specialized dictionaries, and the promotion of scholarly research related to Arabic linguistics and literature.

The academy also seeks to facilitate the Arabic language’s global resurgence by organizing conferences, participating in international forums, and fostering collaborations with linguistic bodies worldwide. By providing resources for the comprehensive development of the Arabic language, the academy aims to restore its scientific and cultural prominence on the global stage.

The Academy is composed of three distinct categories of membership: Permanent members, Honorary members & Corresponding members.
